Updating My Apartment Living Room Decor for $10

After waking up to a shattered living room mirror, I was quickly forced to replace the mirror and inspired to update the living room as a whole — on a budget! Side story: After discovering the broken mirror, S offered to replace it because he knew how much I loved our mirror and its home was in my favorite corner of our apartment. There were a couple of spots in our living room I felt still needed a little attention/decor, so I headed to Walmart in search of a cheap replacement mirror and a craft of some sort. After (at least) an hour and a half of back and forth, I finally left Walmart with 3 items lol! I think I’m beginning to understand why S never wants to shop with me unless there’s a time limit and/or list involved.

What I Purchased:

  • 2 rolls of blue yarn
  • $6 mint blue mirror

I didn’t end up finding a white mirror within my budget, so I knew after I picked up the mint mirror, I was in for a treat — DIY Day! I’d been eyeing DIY hanging tassels on Pinterest for a few months so, I was ready to finally take on the challenge.

Operation Craft Day begins….

DIY Hanging Wall Tassels

I may or may not have gotten a little carried away, but I made about 16 tassels, which I was able to hang in various spots of my living room. Can you believe I only spent about $4 on yarn?! I will show you the end results below:

Painting Mint Blue $6 Mirror

Luckily, I had leftover blue paint from my summer projects. This only took about 1-2 hours and I’m so happy with how it all turned out. In the beginning I was a tad nervous about how this would turn out because of how bright the mint was but it was a success! To style it, I propped the mirror up on top of a short leather stand and added the tassels and faux plants for more style. I love my new updated corner!

Living Room Corner Update

I decided to utilize more of the yarn since I still had a ton of leftovers after making my tassels, so I used a stick of glue and the yarn to spruce up my faux plant. I threw it in my favorite corner along with my freshly painted mirror, handmade tassels, and other faux potted plant. Check it out:

More tassel hanging!

By spending around $10, I was able to update my living room space yet again and customize my decor exactly to my liking! Hope I inspired you to do the same, or give crafting a try. Thanks for reading 🙂

Toni
