Exploring Saugatuck, Michigan

Date: March 7th, 2020

Hi friends! As you can see from the date, I wrote this a while back, but never got the chance to share. Enjoy!

This past week was a little weird for me. This was my first spring break as a college graduate and also the first time I hadn’t taken a spring break trip in over six years! I will say, the week turned around at the end though. We had a few visitors come up for the weekend to visit – S’ mom, dad, and their puppy Bessie stayed at our place and we had an eventful couple of days.

Friday night, we started our evening off by heading to the local bar near our place to have dinner and a couple of beers before our next stop. We all got burgers and I convinced everyone to order one of my new favorite beers by Bell’s Brewing Company which is the Bright White!! After leaving the bar, we spent the rest our night at our college’s hockey game (which they won) and ended our night back at our place eating tortilla chips, watching the NBA, and drinking more Bell’s Bright White.

Saturday, we went to lunch at a local spot near us, University Roadhouse with his family, including his older sisters and their significant others, which was a ton of fun and the sun was shining! I ordered a half reuben and it was amazing.

Shortly after lunch, we picked Bessie up and headed to Saugatuck to explore their downtown area, spend some time at the beach (which lies along Lake Michigan), and get dinner someplace downtown. I did bring my camera, so I will show you some shots I got during our time there!

During our time downtown, we stopped by a local coffee shop. We also got to walk around and explore a few local shops, which is one of my favorite things to do while visiting lake towns.

I also convinced everyone to take on the well-known Mount Baldhead steps, which had an amazing view at the top!

The views at the top were very worth it. Everyone hated me in the beginning, but agreed that it was well worth it.

Before dinner, we also got to visit Oval Beach and I’ll share a few shots I got from there as well!

We ended our time in Saugatuck at a local restaurant and enjoyed each other’s company. We also got to bring the pup, which was a plus! She enjoyed some lovely bar bread while we chowed down on our food.

Safe to say, our trip was a blast and I can’t wait to visit again when the Michigan weather heats up and we can spend more time at the beach. Overall, I’d say this weekend made my vacation-less spring break a great time and I’m so thankful for times like these with the people I love!

At the end of the night, we went to a show back in Kalamazoo since S’ sister’s boyfriend and his band were playing at Bells Brewery!

Fast forward one week later: COVID hits us all hard. What a trip that we will never forget since it was the weekend before everything changed. Do you remember one of the last “normal” things you did before the pandemic??

Thanks for reading!
