A Long Weekend in Colorado

Today, I’m sharing a few highlights from our short but sweet trip to Colorado! This was our first visit since October 2019, thanks to the pandemic, so we were itching to get back. We mainly spent time in the Golden and Evergreen area, but also had the chance to visit Nederland and Ward, Colorado. Here’s how we spent our 4-day trip in Colorado:

Downtown Golden, Colorado

Exploring Golden, Colorado

We stopped at Sassafras American Eatery in downtown Golden for breakfast.

After breakfast we walked around the Downtown Golden area. It’s one of those places that just doesn’t get old, or maybe it’s the basic tourist in me.

While walking along the creek, we visited the Golden History Museum which is also located along the creek, and learned a little more about Golden. It’s free, so if you enjoy museums and need something to do, it’s worth checking out.

Instagram Worthy Photo Spots

I love how many photo opportunities there are in Golden. If you enjoy murals, this “Greetings from Golden” mural is located at the museum, so if you visit there’s also a chance to snap the perfect photo! I love that Golden has a charming feel, but also has mountain views, so you could capture a perfect shot from any angle. I took a few by the river on some rocks, too!

Tributary Food Hall & Market

We met our friend at Tributary Food Hall & Market for drinks once he was out of work. There’s a bar, coffee shop, tacos, and plenty of other options here, and is worth checking out if you haven’t.

Red Rocks Amphitheater

If you haven’t attended any concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater, I would highly recommend checking their website if you’re visiting the area. The only issue we had was getting an Uber home from Red Rocks since we weren’t heading back to Downtown Denver after the show.

Evergreen, Colorado

Evergreen Lake

We took a small walk around the lake and enjoyed the views and man-made dam. We saw plenty of locals and lots of people kayaking! It would be so much fun hanging out on the lake!

Campfire | Evergreen

After taking a short walk/hike we had lunch at Campfire Evergreen and enjoyed the moutain views.

Exploring Nederland

Salto Coffee Works

The next day we woke up bright and early before stopping by Salto Coffee Works in Nederland, before heading to the mountains. I ordered the Egg Sandwich and had the “Chill Out” house blend tea. Salto is cool because it is half coffee shop, half bike and backcountry gear shop!

Hiking at Brainard Lake

After hiking a bit, we set up shop on the side of the lake and enjoyed a beautiful charcuterie spread. There was an opportunity to see a moose, but we immediately shut down any ideas of hiking near anywhere with moose, haha.

That beautiful spread was created by Peakside Provisions. Peakside Provisions a company that does Hiking, Charcuterie, and Food Tours where you can choose between getting a personal tour, then served a personally curated charcuterie or carrying the goods up yourself and setting it up yourself. Check out their website for more information. Christie is so sweet and gets such quality ingredients (and wine). Check her page out on Instagram!

Leaf Peeping and Beyond

Exploring Denver

On our last day, we decided to spend it in Denver. We dropped our bags off for the day at Lugden | Luggage Storage, which is located at the corner of 17th St and Wynkoop St. They’re also open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! It is such a simple process and we had no issues picking up our bags. They also have a phone charging service which is a bonus if you’re ever low on battery in the city!

Wynkoop Brewing Co.

Wynkoop Brewing Company is one of our favorite places to eat and grab a drink in Downtown Denver. Something about the atmosphere just does it for me! We ordered the Spinach and Artichoke Dip for our appetizer and we both ended up ordering Fish ‘n Chips for as our entree and had Oktoberfest Brews to drink! Wynkoop never disappoints and it felt so nice to sit outside mid-October.

Downtown Aquarium

After grabbing food and drinks, we walked to Downtown Aquarium since we’d never been before and wanted to try something new in the city. I think we paid around $24-$25 each and neither of us regretted going! It didn’t feel crowded when we visited and we enjoyed looking at all of the fish and sea animals.

Renting Scooters

We rented scooters from Lime, which was accessed through our Uber apps. It was a pretty easy setup and they were lots of fun to ride around the parks and Denver as a whole.

Train to DEN at Union Station

We ended our trip at Union Station, which is also called LoDO and took the train back to the airport before heading back home. What an short, but sweet visit to one of our favorite places!

It felt nice to travel again and I’m glad our first trip was spent in the beautiful state of Colorado!
