Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

Wedding in Puerto Rico? I’m on my way!
Earlier this year, I traveled to Puerto Rico for a wedding and it was a great time. I was very excited to share some details from the trip.

Where we stayed: Our Airbnb was tucked away on Calle de San Sebastián, a busy street with an active nightlife. Despite being ‘in the thick of it’, we felt safe and noise wasn’t an issue once it was time for bed.

Welcome Party! The welcome party was hosted at a local bar and restaurant with views of Calle de San Sebastian. Cheers!

From Ceremony to Celebration: The Wedding! Our Airbnb was a five-minute walk from the wedding venue, which was perfect – especially since it was obnoxiously hot outside! After the ceremony, we all poured out into the streets of Old San Juan for what turned into an unforgettable parade.

Imagine this: A live band leads us, as we dance through the street. Locals and tourists line the sidewalks, cheering and taking pictures as we make our way to the reception (which was at the end of the street). Dancing on cobblestone in heels is no joke, but it was absolutely worth it for such a unique and unforgettable experience.

Exploring Old San Juan: I spent my days in Puerto Rico exploring Old San Juan on foot. I love how walkable the area is. The city’s vibrant buildings were a treat to discover at a much slower pace than I was used to.

We ventured out to Playa Puerta de Tierra, a local beach where we swam in the North Atlantic Ocean. It was the perfect way to unwind and soak up the sun. I also brought a good book to read!

Food and Drinks in Old San Juan: A trip to Old San Juan isn’t complete without indulging in the local food and drinks. I’ve highlighted some of our favorite spots below.

Anita’s Gelato: shorter wait time after dinner hours
The Mezzanine: great for tapas, cocktails, intimate space
Caficultura: coffee shop, nice breakfast menu, cute space out back
Barrachina: famous for their piña colada
Spicy Caribbee: great spice options to bring home
Café Con Ron: rumored to be linked to Bad Bunny and/or named after one of his songs on a recent album

What a fabulous trip! Have you traveled to Puerto Rico? If not, I would highly recommend the Old San Juan area. I could see myself exploring further out in the future.

Thanks for reading!

I am glad to see you had a wonderful time visiting Puerto Rico, Toni. I’ve not been to Puerto Rico, but I’ve heard a lot of nice things about it, especially its tropical weather, varied landscapes from mountains to coast, and numerous activities make it a versatile destination for relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 I hope your week is off to a good start 🙂 Aiva xx
