Have you ever experienced a museum after hours? I recently attended the Monster Mash event at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and it was an incredible night to say the least!
Monster Mash was a free event, though ticket access was through the NGA’s lottery system, and I got lucky! Going into the night, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The museum was packed with energy, people of all ages in costumes, and the most incredible views for people watching.

The event had so much to offer: a live DJ, local bands, and every level of the museum featured pop-up bars and hands-on activities. I decided to sit with a glass of wine and sketch and listened in on a local band, Oh He Dead. You could still explore the art exhibits at your own pace (with drinks strictly kept outside the gallery doors, naturally!).
What a night to remember! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more after-hours events like this in the future. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out what your local museums offer after dark.
