Posing Ideas: Mountain + Hiking Edition

Hiking is one of my favorite things to do no matter where I am in the world. In October, I got to visit Colorado (again) with Sean and it was a blast! I figured this post would help someone because I know I’m not the only person trying to figure out how the heck to pose for pictures on a mountain right?

As a creative, I am always looking for new and fun ways to pose for pictures and better capture the moment (without losing touch of being present). Photographs make the best memories and I am obsessed with them, but hate spending tons of time trying to figure out what to do in front of a camera. Hope this helps someone!

HOW TO POSE ON A MOUNTAIN: POSING IDEAS TO TRY:

1. Attempt jumping off of something like a tall rock

This feels silly, but some people get some cool shots from doing this! Me… not so much.

2. Walk across a rock/elevated surface

This requires some work on the photographer’s part but super cute and easy! Act natural and walk across an elevated surface or at the edge of something to give an edgy effect. My fave pose!

3. Throw your hands in the air and smile

I don’t even bother looking at the camera, moving while attempting to pose also helps a ton! You end up with some cool pictures you normally don’t get while actually trying to pose and your pictures look more natural.

4. Walk up the mountain/trail

This pose requires no work, it actually lets your surroundings do the posing. Another one of my faves (I even included this pic on an insta post). Again, moving makes it look and feel more natural and less stressful + planned. Let nature be its cute self and enjoy it!

5. Grab a friend and smile!

Friends make posing so much easier
Friends also make it a lot easier to take weird pics… Let loose and have fun!!

Enjoy some bloopers, these sometimes end up being pure gold!

Hope you all enjoyed. What I find most helpful when posing and taking pictures is to literally act natural! Having the photographer take natural shots of you walking and smiling/laughing is one of the best ways in my opinion to genuinely capture the moment. Don’t focus as much on making eye contact with the camera. This way you aren’t focused on posing, rather just enjoying being out in nature and in the present moment, which is what it’s all about!

We love hiking too and always try to capture our adventures on Irish trails. Throw your hands in the air and smile – I’ll try this one next time we are hiking, thanks for sharing

Irish trails sound amazing and I hope to do one some day! It is definitely an easy pose and with little practice, you can get some great shots in the moment. Good luck with it, can’t wait to hear how it goes. Thanks so much for reading! 🙂

How cute and sweet of him to take photos! Stephen acts as if I’m asking him to pull teeth or something for a picture, haha. The walking in the air one looks super cool. Glad you had fun in Colorado; I’ve never been, but it looks gorgeous!

Oh trust me, it’s taken a lot to get to this point where he’s actually willing to take pictures of me! 😂 Colorado is so amazing, and super cheap to fly to from where I live, hope you get to go someday! Thanks so much for stopping by ❤️
